Former Indian cricketer and world cup winner Yashpal Sharma dies of heart attack

 Yashpal Sharma was one of the heroes of 1983 World cup win. Yashpal  Sharma also stood as an Umpire in a couple of Women's matches. He represented India as a middle order batsman.

He was also an ex-national selector and commentator.

Former Indian cricketer Yashpal Sharma has died on tuesday morning due to heart attack. He was one of the player who played pivotal role in the winning of 1983 World Cup. He was 66 and survived by his wife, two daughters and son.

In 1983 World cup, he had scored 240 runs with average of 34.28 and scored crucial 60 runs against England in the semi-final. During his career from 1979-1983, he played 37 tests for India and scored 1606 runs with two centuries and nine fifties. He also played 42 ODI's for India. He made his debut in 1979 against England and represented India as a middle order batsman.

He came in limelight when he scored 260 runs for Punjab schools against Jammu & Kashmir schools in 1972. Within two years, he was come in state team and got selected in North zone team which had won Vizzy trophy. His first major innings in first class cricket was 173 in the Duleep trophy for North zone against South zone.

In Ranji trophy, where he represented three teams- Punjab, Haryana and Railways, he played 160 matches and scored 8,933 runs which included 21 centuries with a highest score of 201 not out. Yashpal  Sharma also stood as an Umpire in a couple of Women's matches. He also served as a coach of Uttar Pradesh Ranji team. He was ex-national selector and commentator too.

President Ramnath Kovind, Prime minister Narendra Modi and many other politicians and cricketers expressed condolences on Yashpal Sharma's death.
