Karwa Chauth 2021:- Significance

On the day of Karwa Chauth, Hindu women wake up early in the morning and observe 'Sargi' made up by their Mother-in-law which includes fruits, milk and dry-fruits. Married women have it before the rising up of Sun and before the starting of their fast. After that, they don't drink even a drop of water until the moon rises.

The celebrations of karwa chauth are started many days before. Married women start purchasing new dresses, bangles, jewellery and other things for karwa chauth. 'Karwa' is the second word for 'pot' and 'Chauth' means 'fourth.' Women decorate the pot with many colours and fill up with bangles, fruits and a small piece of cloth.

People meet relatives and friends on this day and exchange gifts with them. Women who take fast on this day, go to the temples and do puja there. At the evening when moon rises, women break their fast by drinking a sip of water from the husband's hand and after the break of fast, they can have a complete meal.
