Dhanteras also known as Dhantryodashi is the auspicious festival of Hindus. It generally comes two days before diwali. Dhanteras is celebrated on the thirteenth day of Krishna Paksha in the Kartik month of Hindu calendar. This year it falls on 2nd November. It is also considered as the beginning of the Diwali festivities.

Date:- Tuesday, 2nd November, 2021

Shubh Muhurat:- 6:18 pm to 8:11 pm

Pradosh Kaal:- 5:35 pm to 8:14 pm

Dhantryodashi tithi begins:- 11:31 am of 2nd November, 2021

Dhantroydashi tithi ends:- 9:02 am of 3rd November, 2021

Dhanteras 2021:- Significance

Dhanteras is the combination of two words:- 'Dhan' means wealth and 'Teras' means thirteen. Hindus celebrate this festival with full of enthusiasm and fervour. People purchase gold, silver ornaments and utensils on this day as it is believed that it brings wealth and prosperity in home. Shopkeepers decorate their shops and give discount to the customers on this day.

People worship Laxmi Mata along with Lord Kubera (the God of wealth) on this day. Laxmi puja should be done during Pradosh Kaal. Dhanteras is also known as Dhanvantri Triyodashi or Dhanvantri jayanti, the birth anniversary of God of Ayurveda.

People lit deep or diyas outside their homes. The ritual of Yama deepam is also done on this day by litting lamp for the Yama (God of Death) outside the home as it keep away the Lord Yama from the people residing in the house and it protects the members from the untimely death.
