Bhavani devi becomes first Indian fencer who qualified for tokyo olympics

27 years old Bhavani devi has qualified for tokyo olympics in fencing. She becomes first Indian fencer who qualified for tokyo olympics.

She achieved 43rd rank in JKK world cup tournament which was scheduled from 11 to 14th march in hungary. On the basis of this ranking, she qualified for the olympics. She will play in individual sabre event. Quota will be announced officially after the 5th april's final rankings.

After the qualification for tokyo olympics, she said that she has been playing fencing since age of 11, then finally her dream fulfilled now. Not even her dream fulfilled but the dream of her loved ones also fulfilled.

She said that fencing is not very famous in India but when the players will start getting olympic quotas, it will definitely become popular. For achieving this place, she used to practice 5 to 6 hours daily. Now, her next aim is to achieve medal for the country.

Because of covid-19, Chennai's Bhavani devi had come in her home in march last year but after the situation is normal, she has been practicing in Italy since november.
