Complete lockdown in kerala from 8 may to 16 may amid rise in Covid cases

On thursday, Chief minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan has announced complete lockdown in kerala amid rise in Covid-19 cases. Lockdown will come into effect from 6 am 8 may till 16 may. Covid-19 situation is getting worsen in the state that's why Vijayan has taken this step. Kerala is already facing lockdown like stricter curbs.

He said that Covid-19 situation is very serious in the state and positivity rate is not coming down either. Vijayan has posted tweet about the lockdown in which he announced 9 day lockdown in the southern state.

Kerala is one of the most affected state. On wednesday, kerala has reported 41,953 Covid-19 cases which is the highest single day spike in the state. Pinarayi Vijayan has said that there is the need to impose complete lockdown because situation is severe.

Essential services including banks and vaccination centres will remain open during the lockdown. Banks will remain open till 2 pm but with strict covid protocols. State and central government offices which are doing emergency works will also remain open. 

Shops which provide essential commodities will remain open but overcrowding will not be allowed. Takeaways and home delivery will also be allowed from hotels and restaurants. There will be no restrictions on travel by air or rail.

Pinarayi Vijayan has demanded 1000 MT of oxygen from the centre because oxygen stock is dipping in the state. He also demanded 50 lakh doses of covishield vaccine and 25 lakh doses of covaxin.
