International Nurses day 2021:- Nurses are the backbone of healthcare system during the Covid-19 pandemic

Nurses day is being celebrated on the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale

International Nurses day is being celebrated every year on may 12 to honour the nurses who treat the patients in the hospital. International Council of Nurses had celebrated this day first time in 1965. In the year 1953, a US health, welfare and education department official, Dorothy Sunderland, proposed to president Dwight D. Eisenhower to proclaim a 'Nurses Day' but he did not approve.

In the year 1974, may 12 has been started celebrating as a nurses day on the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale who was the founder of modern nursing. She was also a reformer and statistician. She had come forward as a prominent leader during the Crimean war. In this war, she had worked as a manager and trainer of nurses.

Due to her pioneering efforts, new nurses started taking Nightingale pledge and the Florence Nightingale medal is the highest international recognition for nurses, were named in her honour.

Nurses are the integral part of our healthcare system. They are the backbone of hospitals. It has been realised by all of us especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Nurses ensure that patients are taking medicines and food on time or not. Although, they know that virus can spread from one person to another by speaking or touching to infected person. Despite, nurses are not caring about that and are doing their duties with full of enthusiasm.

They are doing their duties by following Covid-19 protocols. They wear face masks and PPE kits in the hospital for several hours. Nurses organise ventilation system and oxygen support for the patients. They are also the link between doctors and patients. They follow the guidelines issued by doctors for the patients. They make sure that they are providing correct and efficient medicine to the patients or not which are prescribed by doctors.

Without caring their near and dear ones, they are performing their duties. Even they are giving more importance to the severe patients in front of their loved ones which everyone can't do. So, we should show gratitude not only towards the doctors but also towards the nurses.
