Captain Amarinder Singh resigns as Chief minister of Punjab on saturday ahead of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting. He handed over his resignation to the Governor of Punjab Banwarilal Purohit at Raj Bhawan.

His resignation comes after a long tussle between him and Navjot Singh Sidhu. In July, Sidhu was made the Congress party chief of Punjab by the party high command. Captain Amarinder Singh was not happy with this decision.

After the resignation, Captain said to the media that he resigned as Punjab CM. He called up to the party chief in the morning and told that he is resigning. Earlier, two times MLA's meeting held in delhi and this is the third time meeting held without informing him and he is not happy with this secret meeting.

He said to the media that he feels humiliated as party is not trusting him, an element of doubt on him and considering him weak CM and now they can choose the CM to whom they trust.

He further said that he has been active in politics for almost 51 years and remained the CM of Punjab for 9 years and now he will talk to his supporters and will decide the future course of politics.

In the Congress Legislature party meeting on saturday, two resolutions have been passed by the party high command. The first was an appreciation of the leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh for his role in the development of Punjab.

The second resolution was to decide the new CM of Punjab. Congress president Sonia Gandhi would decide the CM and the legislature ministers would have to accept the decision.

Now, speculations over the new CM of Punjab has started. Navjot Singh Sidhu and Sunil Jakhar are the strong contenders for the post of new CM. Former Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar is being seen as the frontrunner for this post.
