Lone survivor of CDS Rawat chopper crash, Group Captain Varun Singh succumbs to injuries

 After battling with the injuries almost for one week, Group captain Varun Singh passed away. He was in the Mi-17V5 chopper with CDS Bipin Rawat, which had crashed in Coonoor.

Group Captain Varun Singh, who was a lone survivor of CDS Rawat Chopper crash, succumbs to injuries on wednesday. On December 8, 2021, a chopper was crashed in Coonoor when it was going to Wellington.

This chopper was carrying total 14 persons including CDS Bipin Rawat, his wife and others. 13 of 14 persons had died on the same day and only Group Captain Varun Singh had remained survive. His condition was also very critical and was admitted in Wellington's Military hospital. After giving initial treatment in Wellington, he was taken to IAF Command Hospital on December 9.

 After battling with the injuries almost for one week, he passed away. He was the only hope who can explain the chopper crash accident in detail but unfortunately he died in Command Hospital on wednesday.

It has been confirmed by the Indian Air Force on twitter. "IAF is deeply saddened to inform the passing away of braveheart Group Captain Varun Singh, who succumbed this morning to the injuries sustained in the helicopter accident on 08 Dec 21. IAF offers sincere condolences and stands firmly with the bereaved family.", IAF tweeted.

 Prime minister Narendra Modi tweeted that Group Captain Varun Singh served the nation with pride and his rich service to the nation will never be forgotten. "Group Captain Varun Singh served the nation with pride, valour and utmost professionalism. I am extremely anguished by his passing away. His rich service to the nation will never be forgotten. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti.", PM tweeted.

 

Group Captain Varun Singh was in the Mi-17V5 chopper with CDS Bipin Rawat. The chopper was going to Wellington Defence Services Staff College where CDS was to deliver a lecture but it crashed in a mid-way.

Varun Singh was awarded Shaurya Chakra in August as he averted a possible mid-air aircraft accident.
