On 5th march, 2021 chief minister of punjab captain Amarinder singh had announced in the vidhan sabha that women can travel free in the public buses of punjab. 26 days after this announcement, punjab government gives approval to this service.
This free travel will be only within the punjab state. If any lady wants to go in any another state then after crossing the border of punjab, they have to give bus fare.
Ladies can take this benefit in public buses like PRTC, PUNBUS and city buses. These buses will give free services to ladies from 1st april, 2021. AC, Volvo, HVAC and private buses will not offer any free service.
When ladies will be travelling in the public buses they will be required to show any ID proof to conductor for getting free service. ID proof like aadhaar card, voter card, license or any other identity proof which will show that the lady belongs to punjab state. In case, lady has no identity proof then she can't take the benefit of free bus service.
Free bus travel would benefit the 1.31 crore ladies in punjab. It will be more beneficial for the school and college girls because with this service, they can freely travel from home to school or college and vice-versa.
Lady family members of any government employee or any lady government employee who use to live in chandigarh can also take the benefit of this service. Age group of lady doesn't matter for taking this service.
