Subhadra Kumari Chauhan was born on 16th August, 1904 in Nihalpur village of Allahabad district, Uttar pradesh. "Jhansi ki Rani" is one of the most famous poems of Subhadra. In 1921, Subhadra and her husband joined Mahatma Gandhi's Non-Cooperation movement.

On 16th August, 2021 the tech giant Google celebrates the 117th birth anniversary of Subhadra Kumari Chauhan through doodle. She was a famous Indian poet who wrote number of poems on the Indian freedom movement. "Jhansi ki Rani" is one of the most famous poems of Subhadra. Through her poems, she inspired the youth to take part in the freedom movement of India.
Google said, "Chauhan's poetry remains a staple in many Indian classrooms as a symbol of historical progress, encouraging future generations to stand up against social injustice and celebrate the words that shaped a nation's history."
Subhadra Kumari Chauhan was born on 16th August, 1904 in Nihalpur village of Allahabad district, Uttar pradesh. Initially, she studied at Crosthwaite's girls school and completed her middle school examination in 1919.
In 1919, she married Thakur Lakshman Singh Chauhan of Khandwa at the age of 16 whom she had 5 children. After the marriage with Thakur, she moved to Jabalpur.
In 1921, Subhadra and her husband joined Mahatma Gandhi's Non-Cooperation movement. She was the first woman Satyagrahi to court arrest in Nagpur and jailed twice for taking part in the protests against the British rule in 1923 and 1942.
Subhadra Kumari Chauhan wrote many poems in hindi. Rani ki Jhansi was one of the most recited and sung poems in hindi literature. This was an emotionally charged poem describing the life of Rani Lakshmi Bai and her participation in the 1857 Revolution.
Her other poems like Jallianwala Bagh mein Vasant, Veeron ka kaisa ho Basant, Rakhi ki Chunauti, Vida. She also wrote in Khariboli dialect of Hindi. Apart from heroic poems, she also wrote poems for children. She wrote some short stories based on the life of middle class.
Subhadra was also the member of state legislative assembly. On 15th february, 1948 she died in the car accident in Seoni M.P. when she was returning to Jabalpur from Nagpur after attending the assembly session.
The Madhya pradesh government placed the statue of Subhadra Kumari Chauhan before the Municipal Corporation office in Jabalpur.
