History of World Rose Day
This day is celebrated in the remembrance of Melinda Rose, a 12 year old Canadian girl who was diagnosed with Askin's tumour, a rare type of blood cancer. Her spirit to live changed the life of so many cancer patients.
Doctors were said that she can live only a few weeks but her undying spirit kept her alive for six months. During that period, she used to write poetry, letters and e-mails for cancer warriors around her. She spread ray of hope and cheer among the cancer patients in hospital. As a result, World Rose Day was named after her to commemorate her bravery and undying spirit.
Significance of World Rose Day
Fighting with cancer is not easy, patient has to suffer with a physical as well as mental pain but a ray of hope should be alive in them and it is possible if their caretakers stay with them and provide them a mental strength.
People give roses to the cancer patients on this day, this is a way of saying that they are always being with them. Rose is a tribute to them. Besides rose, people also give many special gifts and cards to them.
