Who is Parag Agrawal, Twitter's new Indian-origin CEO?

 The 37 year old Parag Agrawal was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra. secured 77th rank in the Joint Entrance Examination in 2000 and got admission in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay.

Parag Agrawal becomes the new CEO of twitter. An earlier CEO Jack Dorsey announced his resignation and named Parag as the new CEO. Parag Agrawal is an Indian-American who moved America for higher studies.

The 37 year old Parag Agrawal was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra. His father was a senior official in the Indian department of Atomic Energy and his mother is a retired teacher. Agrawal secured 77th rank in the Joint Entrance Examination in 2000 and got admission in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay from where he completed his B.Tech in 2005.

Agrawal moved to America for the higher studies. He completed his PhD in computer science from Stanford University. After completing PhD, he joined twitter as a distinguished software engineer in 2011. Before joining twitter, he also worked at Microsoft Research and Yahoo! Research.

Agrawal is responsible for Twitter's technical strategy and overseeing machine learning and AI across the consumer, revenue, and science teams.

In 2017, Twitter announced the appointment of Agrawal as Chief Technology Officer. Since then, he was the CTO of twitter and on November 29, 2021 Jack Dorsey steps down as CEO and Agrawal becomes the new CEO of twitter.

Jack Dorsey said that Parag Agrawal has been his choice for sometime given how deeply he understands the company and its needs. His trust in him as twitter's CEO is bone deep.

Agrawal is married to Vineeta Agrawal. She is a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz, a venture capital firm. They have one son.

After becoming a CEO, Agrawal is facing criticism for his tweet, which he did in 2010. In that tweet he wrote, "If they are not gonna make a distinction between muslims and extremists, then why should I distinguish between white people and racists."

Now, Parag Agrawal has joined the other Indian origin personalties, who are also the CEO of big tech companies. Sundar Pichai is the CEO of Google and Alphabet and Satya Nadella is the CEO of Microsoft. IBM CEO Arvind Krishna and Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen. These all are Indian-Americans.
