PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi pays tribute to Rajiv Gandhi on his 77th birth anniversary

Rajiv Gandhi worked as pilot for 10 years in the Indian airlines. In 1968, he married to Sonia Gandhi who is the current president of congress party. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are their children.

On 20th August, 2021 there is the 77th birth anniversary of former prime minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi. He was the youngest prime minister of India. In 1984, when Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her bodyguards, Rajiv Gandhi became the prime minister of India. At that time, he was 40 years old.

Rajiv Gandhi's son Rahul Gandhi and other leaders pay tribute to him at his memorial in Delhi. PM Narendra Modi also paid tribute to him. PM wrote, "Tributes to our former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji on his birth anniversary."

Initially, Rajiv Gandhi is said that he has never shown any interest in politics. Before coming in the politics, he was a pilot. He worked as pilot for 10 years in Indian airlines. In 1968, he married to Sonia Gandhi who is the current president of congress party. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are their children.

Rajiv Gandhi studied at Welham boys preparatory school in Dehradun. Then, he moved to Doon school where his younger brother Sanjay Gandhi joined him. After that, he studied at Trinity College of Cambridge. Then, he took the degree of mechanical engineering from Imperial College, London. After returning India, he took the license of commercial pilot from the Delhi Flying Club and became a pilot with Indian airlines.

After the death of his younger brother, Sanjay Gandhi in 1980, Rajiv Gandhi contested in his first elections and won in Amethi from where Sanjay Gandhi was being represented in the Parliament. In 1984, he became the prime minister of India and also the president of Congress party. 

Under the Rajiv Gandhi's leadership, Congress won the majority of 414 seats in the lok sabha elections which is all time highest number of seats of any party. Rajiv Gandhi is also the recepient of Bharat Ratna which is the highest civilian award of the India.

In May 1991, when Rajiv Gandhi was campaigning for the general elections in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, he was assassinated by a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) suicide bomber.
