Every year October 5 is observed as World Teachers day across the globe. This day marks the importance of the teachers in the field of education. Many countries celebrate this day on the different dates like India celebrates it on September 5 on the birth anniversary of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

World Teachers day are celebrated in 100 nations across the world. UNESCO/ International Labour Organisation and Education International work for the teachers status.

Theme of World Teachers' Day 2021

The theme of World Teachers' day 2021 is "Teachers at the heart of education recovery." UNESCO has decided this theme as Covid-19 pandemic adversely affects the education for one and a half year and now it can be recovered by supporting the teachers.

According to unesco.org, "A five day series of global and regional events will showcase the effect that the pandemic has had on the teaching profession, highlight effective and promising policy responses, and aim to establish the steps that need to be taken to ensure that teaching personnel develop their full potential."

History of World Teachers' Day

World Teachers' day has been celebrated since 1994. This day acknowledges the anniversary of the adoption of 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the status of teachers, it sets benchmarks regarding their rights and responsibilities and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, teaching and learning.

Significance of World Teachers' Day

Teachers are the inseparable part of the education system. Their contribution is invaluable towards the students and society. The status of the teachers should be increased as they not only make the life of the students beautiful but also make the beautiful society.

In the joint statement of UNESCO, ILO, UNICEF and Education International (EI) said, "On World Teachers' Day, we are not only celebrating every teacher . We are calling on countries to invest in them and prioritize them in global education recovery efforts so that every learner has access to a qualified and supported teacher. Let's stand with our teachers!"

This day is celebrated to acknowledge and appreciate the work of teachers. Many schools and colleges organise events for the teachers on this day to recognise their contribution towards the society.
