| Sikhs use to visit holistic shrines for paying obeisance in front of Guru Granth Sahib on Baisakhi |
Baisakhi or Vaisakhi is popularly being celebrated in the northern states of India. Punjab, haryana and a little part of uttar pradesh celebrate this festival with full of joy and enthusiasm. Baisakhi is also known as the festival of harvest. On this day, farmers use to cut their crops because they consider this day holistic.
Significance or importance of Baisakhi
Baisakhi is called the festival of farmers and Sikhs. Farmers start cutting their crops. In the year 1699, tenth guru of sikhs Guru Gobind Singh ji established the khalsa panth. From that day, sikhs have been celebrating this festival with full of joy and enthusiasm. On this day, people also pay tribute to the martyrs of jallianwala bagh massacre. On 13th april, 1919 General dyer was the one who was behind this massacre. After that, S. Udham Singh had taken the revenge of this massacre. According to desi calendar, new month starts on the baisakhi. That month is called Baisakh in desi calendar.
Date of Baisakhi
Baisakhi generally comes on the date of 13th or 14th april. This year, Baisakhi falls on 13th april tuesday. Farmers and Sikhs eagerly wait for this day.
Celebrations of Baisakhi
On this day, people wear new and attractive clothes. Sikhs hold paths and kirtans in the gurudwaras. People reach the gurudwaras with full of enthusiasm and pay obeisance in front of Guru Granth Sahib. Punjabis also do bhangra and gidha on this day. People use to go in holistic shrines and bath in sarovars. Usually, there remains a holiday in all educational institutions and offices on this day.
